SIAKOS.HANAPPE House of Art

From January 2010 until July 2012, SIAKOS.HANAPPE House of Art was ran as an international contemporary art gallery  based in Glyfada in the southern suburbs of the city of Athens, close to the sea and the marinas. It continued an international program but also  focused on young Greek artists to give them the opportunity to showcase their work during a period of deepening economic crisis in Greece. The large and light space, divided over three levels (ground floor, mezzanine, lower level) provided for 230 sq.m. of exhibition space. The layout was designed in collaboration with partner Lazarus Siakos. The continuous program included group shows, screenings, solo presentations by Alan Michael, Hara Piperidou, Dimitris Skalkotos, a.o., and curatorials such as Arcadian Boxes by Steven Jacobs. Plans had been developed for the addition of the SH Cafe and the SH Shop with objects designed by artists, and the publication of the SH Newsletter. The severe financial, economic, and social crisis in Greece have made these plans impossible, at least for now. SIAKOS.HANAPPE is now exclusively website based and dedicated to art in the private sphere.
